Ljørslev Kirke – a Romanesque church with art and historical layers

Ljørslev Kirke sits quietly in the landscape of Mors, presenting itself as a classic village church with deep historical roots.

Here the solid stonework of the Middle Ages meets later additions, and the result is a church with both weight and character.

From Romanesque foundations to a Gothic tower

The church was originally built as a Romanesque ashlar church, but was extended in the 15th century with a lengthened nave.

The late Gothic tower adds a prominent feature to the building and has since been restored, standing today as a natural part of the whole.

The porch is of more recent date, originating from around 1880.

Art and furnishings

Inside the church you'll find a number of art-historical elements from different periods.

The font is Gothic and made from limestone from Gotland – a fine example of medieval craftsmanship and cross-Baltic connections.

The pulpit is in the Baroque style from 1706, and the altarpiece was created by the artist Chr. Dalsgaard in 1864. The motif of 'The Good Shepherd' lends the church interior a calm and narrative dimension.
