Agerø Kirke – a whitewashed church by the Limfjord with views and light at its heart
Elevated in the centre of Agerø with views in every direction across the Limfjord, Agerø Kirke stands as a bright and open gathering place. Here you'll find a church by the Limfjord where simple architecture, art and light create a particularly calm and sensory experience.
A church with views and understated beauty
The small whitewashed church with its low tower was designed by architect P.C. Pedersen and consecrated in 1908.
Its position at the heart of Agerø affords a remarkable view across the Limfjord and makes the church a natural landmark in the landscape.
The church's understated expression emphasises the connection between building and surroundings – here it is the light, the views and the stillness that fill the space.
Experience the space – where light and art come together
Agerø Kirke is distinctive in having no traditional altarpiece.
Instead, a blue window with a golden cross serves as the church's visual focal point. Light filters through the glass and creates delicate, shifting light effects within the space.
The pulpit and pews have been decorated by visual artist Therese Licht Nielsen, lending the interior a contemporary, artistic character. Hanging from the ceiling is a two-masted flat-bottomed schooner, built by Kr. Gramstrup from Agerø and hung in 1925 – a beautiful nod to the island's maritime history.
Why you should visit Agerø Kirke
Agerø Kirke is ideal for those seeking experiences by the Limfjord that combine nature, architecture and art.
Here you'll find a church where the view is just as important as the interior – and where light plays a central role.
A visit pairs well with other experiences on Agerø and Mors, where landscape and culture go hand in hand.
