Ansgarskirken – a Neo-Gothic church on Mors with a free congregation's history

In the heart of Mors, Ansgarskirken stands as a living testament to community, faith and free traditions.

Here you'll find a church by the Limfjord where Neo-Gothic architecture and powerful stories of free congregation life go hand in hand.

A church born of community and new ideas

Ansgarskirken was built and consecrated in 1871 as the church of the then Morsø Valgmenighed, which was founded in the same year. Since 1883 it has served as the home of Morsø Frimenighed.

The church is built in the Neo-Gothic style, setting it apart from the many medieval churches on Mors – both in character and in history.

Discover the details – art, form and narrative

The altarpiece 'Ansgar Baptises', painted by Christen Dalsgaard in 1872, is a central work of art in the church and connects its story to the early history of the Danish church.

The pulpit is shaped like a bellflower and was designed by free school teacher Anders Dissing in 1871 – a poetic and distinctive interpretation of a classic church element.

The font was created by sculptor Erik Heide in 1960, bringing a modern artistic expression to the interior that stands in beautiful contrast to the older elements.

Why you should visit Ansgarskirken

Ansgarskirken is ideal for those seeking experiences by the Limfjord that combine cultural history and architectural variety.

Here you'll find a church that tells a different story from the classic village churches – a story of free congregation, community and new paths.

A visit pairs well with other experiences on Mors, where both nature and culture invite deeper exploration.
