Blidstrup church – a manor church with rare details and a rich history

Blidstrup church on Mors is a medieval church with a particular weight and character.

Originally it served as a manor church, and that heritage is still felt in both its architecture and its furnishings.

The church sits quietly in the landscape and presents itself as a place where history, faith and craftsmanship meet.

Architecture across several eras

The church is built in the Romanesque style with an apse, chancel and nave, while the prominent west tower is Gothic and contains the remains of an even older tower structure.

At the south door you will find a late Gothic porch, adding yet another historical layer to the building. The nave doors in particular are remarkable for their rich and rare decoration.

Art and furnishings of distinction

Inside the church you are met by a number of notable art-historical elements. The Renaissance-style pew work from 1625 is a fine example of the craftsmanship of its time, and the pulpit from around 1590 bears witness to the church's long continuity.

In the tower room there is a former burial chapel, and above it a manorial pew – a clear trace of the church's ties to the manor estate. On the north wall hangs a chancel arch crucifix from around 1500, lending the space a distinctive atmosphere.

A font with stories to tell

The font is Romanesque and carved in granite, decorated with human figures, animal heads and plant tendrils. It is a piece of medieval art in which symbolism and craftsmanship merge into a single narrative.
