Dragstrup Church
Frescoes, dragons and one of the country's most beautiful baptismal fonts.

Dragstrup Kirke – frescoes, dragons and one of the country's most beautiful baptismal fonts
Dragstrup Kirke sits quietly in the landscape on Mors and holds a truly remarkable history. The Romanesque church was built in the 12th–13th century near a holy spring, which can still be seen outside the north-western corner of the churchyard.
Even here, you sense that this place has held significance far back in time.
Unique frescoes
As the only church on Mors, Dragstrup Kirke has preserved frescoes from around the year 1480. They offer a rare glimpse into the medieval world of imagery and lend the church interior a distinctive atmosphere in which history comes vividly to the fore.
A font of exceptional quality
The church's baptismal font is something truly special. It is decorated with a striking dragon motif and is regarded as one of the most beautiful baptismal fonts in Denmark.
It is a piece of medieval art in which symbolism and craftsmanship merge into a higher unity.
Art and traces of the past
Above the altar hangs a more recent tapestry – the only church decoration the artist Helge Ernst managed to complete. It brings a modern layer to the space, standing in fine contrast to the church's older elements.
On the outside of the chancel's south wall you can see the remains of a so-called leper window – a historical testimony to a time when the church also played a role for the most vulnerable members of society.
