Næssundfærgen – a historic wooden ferry and a living crossing of the Limfjord

When Næssundfærgen leaves the shore, it is not just a crossing – it is a piece of living history.

Here the old wooden ferry moves quietly through the Limfjord, while the water glides along the hull and the landscape opens up in both directions.

750 years of ferry history and Denmark's oldest car ferry connection

Næssund is one of Denmark's oldest ferry crossings, with a history of around 750 years.

Today the tradition is continued as Denmark's oldest car ferry connection, with over 100 years behind it.

Authentic wooden ferry from 1964 preserved in service

MF Næssund was built in 1964 and is the last authentic Limfjord wooden ferry.

The ferry is preserved in its original form and is today operated by an association – the only car ferry in Denmark run in this way.

A crossing with calm, woodwork and close contact with the fjord

On board the materials are clearly felt. The woodwork, the sound of the engine and the movement through the water create a quiet rhythm.

The crossing gives you time to look out over the fjord, where the coastlines slowly drift by.

A small duty-free shop with local products on board

On the ferry there is a small shop selling local goods – often described as Denmark's smallest and most charming duty-free shop.

Here you can buy selected products for the journey ahead.

Frequent departures throughout the day from Mors and Thy

On weekdays there are morning departures from Mors every 20 minutes from 06.30 to 08.30 (from Thy 5 minutes later).

Between 09.00 and 17.00 the ferry runs every 20 minutes from Mors (from Thy 15 minutes later) on all days including weekends and public holidays.

Evening sailings in summer with food and a longer time on the water

During the summer season, evening sailings are offered with Næssundfærgen. The trip lasts approximately 2½ hours and includes dinner and coffee, turning the crossing into a longer experience on the fjord.
